Boost chlorine reliability with electromagnetic flowmeters
How Olin Corporation improved its electrolysis process with Endress+Hauser's Proline Promag P 300 electromagnetic flowmeter
When Olin Corporation's Plaquemine, LA chlorine production facility needed a fix for unreliable flow measurements caused by extreme electrical interference, they turned to Endress+Hauser for accurate electromagnetic flowmeter readings.
Stable, accurate flow measurement for every phase
-
Endress+Hauser’s Proline Promag P 300 electromagnetic flowmeter delivered immediate improvements in measurement stability, process control and operational confidence. It provided consistent, accurate flow readings across all operational phases.
Challenges solved using electromagnetic flowmeter principle
Olin’s Plaquemine facility produces chlorine, hydrogen and caustic soda under extreme conditions—up to 850 volts DC and 72,000 amps. These high stray currents historically damage standard electromagnetic flowmeters, causing grounding electrode failures, erratic readings and frequent maintenance issues.
Electromagnetic flowmeter tech cuts stray current risks
To address these challenges, Olin collaborated with Endress+Hauser to trial the Proline Promag P 300 electromagnetic flowmeter equipped with Floating Measurement technology. This innovative design eliminates the need for traditional grounding rings, significantly reducing susceptibility to stray currents and interference.
